Cardiovascular Safety of Testosterone in Women

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To examine the recent data pertaining to the relationships between testosterone and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer in women.

RECENT FINDINGS: Despite the entrenched belief that higher blood levels of testosterone increase the risk of CVD in women, data from recent observational studies mostly show an inverse relationship between testosterone and CVD risk. One pilot study suggests favorable effects of nonoral testosterone treatment of women with established congestive cardiac failure which merits further evaluation. The relationship between endogenous testosterone production and breast cancer risk remains contentious, with recent studies indicating either no relationship, or a possible increase in risk when estrone and estradiol are not taken into account. No randomized controlled trial of testosterone therapy has been sufficiently large or of sufficient duration to establish whether such treatment may influence breast cancer occurrence. There does not appear to be an association between testosterone and endometrial cancer, or other malignancies on review of published studies.

SUMMARY: Testosterone is inversely associated with increased CVD risk in women, whereas low sex hormone binding globulin increases CVD risk. The relationship between testosterone and breast cancer remains unclear, although a clear signal of risk has not emerged from studies of women treated with testosterone therapy over the past decade.

Former St Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire has admitted using steroids when he was a player, including 1998 when he broke the single-season home-run record.

"I used steroids during my playing career and I apologize," the 46-year-old said in a statement on Monday.

McGwire belted 70 home runs for St Louis in 1998 to shatter the record of 61 hit by Roger Maris for the New York Yankees in 1961. The record was then broken again when Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants registered 73 homers in 2001. McGwire last played in 2001 and was hired in October as hitting coach for the Cardinals. He said he wanted to set the record straight before beginning his new role with the team. "It's time for me to talk about the past and to confirm what people have suspected," he said. "I remember trying steroids very briefly in the 1989-90 off-season and then after I was injured in 1993 I used steroids again. Methandienone is a derivative of testosterone, exhibiting strong anabolic and moderate androgenic properties. This compound was first made available in 1960, and it quickly became the most favored and widely used anabolic steroid in all forms of athletics. This is likely due to the fact that it is both easy to use and extremely effective. In the U.S. Dianabol production had meteoric history, exploding for quite some time, then quickly dropping out of sight. Many were nervous in the late 80's when the last of the U.S. generics were removed from pharmacy shelves, the medical community finding no legitimate use for the drug anymore. But the fact that Dianabol has been off the U.S. market for over 10 years now has not cut its popularity. It remains the most commonly used black market oral steroid in the U.S. As long as there are countries manufacturing this steroid, it will probably remain so.
Similar to testosterone and Anadrol 50, Methanodex 10 is a potent steroid, but also one which brings about noticeable side effects. For starters Methandienone is quite estrogenic. Gynecomastia is often a concern during treatment, and may present itself quite early into a cycle (particularly when higher doses are used). At the same time water retention can become a pronounced problem, causing a notable loss of muscle definition as both subcutaneous water and fat build. Sensitive individuals may therefore want to keep the estrogen under control with the addition of an anti-estrogen such as Nolvadex and/or Proviron. The stronger drugs Arimidex, Femara, or Aromasin (antiaromatase) would be a better choice if available.
In addition, androgenic side effects are common with this substance, and may include bouts of oily skin, acne and body/facial hair growth. Aggression may also be increased with a potent steroid such as this, so it would be wise not to let your disposition change for the worse during a cycle. With Methanodex 10 there is also the possibility of aggravating a male pattern baldness condition. Sensitive individuals may therefore wish to avoid this drug and opt for a milder anabolic such as Deca-Durabolin. While Methanodex 10mg does convert to a more potent steroid via interaction with the 5-alpha reductase anzyme (the same enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone), it has extremely little affinity to do so in the human body's. The androgenic metabolite 5alpha dihydroMethandienone is therefore produced only in trace amounts at best. Therefore the use of Proscar/Propecia would serve no real purpose.
Being moderately androgenic, Methanodex 10 mg is really only a popular steroid with men. When used by women, strong virilization symptoms are of course a possible result. Some do however experiment with it, and find low doses (5mg) of this steroid extremely powerful for new muscle growth. Whenever taken, Methanodex 10mg will produce exceptional mass and strength gains. It's effectiveness is often compared to other strong steroids like testosterone and Anadrol 50, and it is likewise a popular choice for bulking purposes. A daily dosage of 20-40mg is enough to give almost anybody dramatic results. Some do venture much higher in dosage, but this practice usually leads to a more profound incidence of side effects. It additionally combines well with a number of other steroids. It is noted to mix particularly well with the mild anabolic Deca-Durabolin. Together one can expect an exceptional muscle and strength gains, with side effects not much worse than one would expect from Methanodex 10 mg alone. The main dissimilarity seems to lie in the tendency for estrogenic side effects, which seems to be much more pronounced with Methanodex 10. Equipoise is known to be quite mild in this way, and users therefore commonly take this drug without any need of an anti-estrogen. Methanodex 10mg is much more estrogenic not because it is more easily aromatized, as in fact the 17 alpha methyl group and c1-2 double bond both slow the process of aromatization. The problem is thatMethandienone converts to l7alpha methylestradiol, a more biologically active form of estrogen than regular estradiol. But Methanodex 10mg also appears to be much more potent in terms of muscle mass compared to boldenone, supporting the notion that estrogen does play an important role in anabolism. In fact boldenone andMethandienone differ so much in their potencies as anabolics that the two are rarely though of as related. As a result, the use of Methanodex 10mg is typically restricted to bulking phases of training while Equipoise is considered an excellent cutting or lean-mass building steroid.
The half-life of Methanodex 10mg is only about 3 to 4 hours, a relatively short time. This means that a single daily dosage schedule will produce a varying blood level, with ups and downs throughout the day. The user likewise has a choice, to either split up the tablets during the day or to take them all at one time. The usual recommendation has been to divide them and try to regulate the concentration in your blood. Action of Different Esters

There are many different esters that are used with anabolic/androgenic steroids, but again, they all do basically the same thing. Esters vary only in their ability to reduce a steroid's water solubility. An ester like testosterone propionate for example will slow the release of a steroid for a few days, while the duration will be weeks with a decanoate ester. Esters have no effect on the tendency for the parent steroid to convert to estrogen or DHT (dihydrotestosterone: a more potent metabolite) nor will it effect the overall muscle-building potency of the compound. Any differences in results and side effects that may be noted by bodybuilders who have used various esterified versions of the same base steroid are just issues of timing.

Testosterone enanthate causes estrogen related problems more readily than Sustanon, simply because with enanthate testosterone levels will peak and trough much sooner (1-2 week release duration as opposed to 3 or 4). Likewise testosterone suspension is the worst in regards to gyno and water bloat because blood hormone levels peak so quickly with this drug. Instead of waiting weeks for testosterone levels to rise to their highest point, here we are at most looking at a couple of days. Given an equal blood level of testosterone, there would be no difference in the rate of aromatization or DHT conversion between different esters. There is simply no mechanism for this to be possible.

There is however one way that we can say an ester does technically effect potency; it is calculated in the steroid weight. The heavier the ester chain, the greater is its percentage of the total weight. In the case of testosterone enanthate for example, 250mg of esterified steroid (testosterone enanthate) is equal to only 180mg of free testosterone. 70mgs out of each 250mg injection is the weight of the ester. If we wanted to be really picky, we could consider enanthate slightly MORE potent than cypionate as its ester chain contains one less carbon atom (therefore taking up a slightly smaller percentage of total weight). Propionate would of course come out on top of the three, releasing a measurable (but not significant) amount more testosterone per injection than cypionate or enanthate.

All oil based and water based anabolic steroids should be taken intramuscular. This means the shot must penetrate the skin and subcutaneous tissue to enter the muscle itself. Intramuscular injections are used when prompt absorption is desired, when larger doses are needed than can be given cutaneously or when a drug is too irritating to be given subcutaneously.

The common sites for in intramuscular injections include the buttock, lateral side of the thigh, and the deltoid region of the arm. Muscles in these areas, especially the gluteal muscles in the buttock, are fairly thick. Because of the large number of muscle fibers and extensive fascia, (fascia is a type of connective tissue that surrounds and separates muscles) the drug has a large surface area for absorption. Absorption is further promoted by the extensive blood supply to muscles. Ideally, intramuscular injections should be given deep within the muscle and away from major nerves and blood vessels.

The best site for steroids injections is in the gluteus medius muscle which is located in the upper outer quadrant of the buttock. The iliac crest serves as a landmark for this quadrant. The spot for an injection in an adult is usually to 7 1/2 centimeters (2 to 3 inches) below the iliac crest. The iliac crest is the top of the pelvic girdle on the posterior (back) side. You can find the iliac crest by feeling the uppermost bony area above each gluteal muscle. The upper outer quadrant is chosen because the muscle in this area is quite thick and has few nerves.

The probability of injecting the steroid into a blood vessel is remote in this area. Injecting here reduces the chance of injury to the sciatic nerve which runs through the lower and middle area of the buttock. It controls the posterior of each thigh and the entire leg from the knee down. If an injection is too close to this nerve or actually hits it, extreme pain and temporary paralysis can be felt in these areas. This is especially undesirable and warrants staying as far away from this area as possible. If the gluteal region cannot be injected for some reason, the second choice would be the lateral portion of the thigh.

Usually, intramuscular steroids injections in the thigh are only indicated for infants and children. The vastus lateralis muscle is the only area of the thigh that should be injected intramuscularly. This site is determined by using the knee and the greater trochanter of the femur as landmarks. The greater trochanter is the bony area that you can feel where the femur joins the pelvic girdle. The mid portion of the muscle is located by measuring the hand breadth above the knee and the handbreadth below the greater trochanter. Injecting into the front of the thigh or inside of the thigh is extremely unwise. These areas contain nerves as well as a number of blood vessels.

This was for a science class at Columbia College. We had to do some sort of presentation on a random topic from our labs. At the same time I had this literature class, in which my textbook had this old comic strip style advertisement for a Charles Atlas workout book. This became the storyboards for the project, as well as set the infamous "misinformative 50's science video" tone. The script was minimal and most of this project was done in an improvisational manner. Most of the jokes we made up either right before shooting or while shooting, and even while doing voice-overs. In fact, the 'Dr. Braun' and 'Andy the Andro' section had no script on set. I just shot some footage of Shaun acting like a nazi, and the pill yapping its mouth randomly. Then just added all the lines later. The haphazardness and bad overdubs fit well with the bad 50's documentary style. I think I got a "B-" or some bullshit, and most of my classmates just watched it in silence. I think it was me and a few others in the class who were cracking up while watching it. I think the teacher and other classmates were expecting something serious. I think if I wanted it to be a more successful comedy I should cut most of the science, and if I wanted it to be a more informative science video.... well who the f...ck wants that?

White- and blue-collar workers, females and, most alarmingly, adolescents take steroids -- all linked by the desire to hopefully look, perform and feel better, regardless of the dangers.
Anabolic steroids for bodybuilding are designed to mimic the bodybuilding traits of testosterone. Most healthy males produce less than 10 milligrams of testosterone a day. Methandrostenolone can provide immediate and visible results. One worry short term users of Anabol needn't fear is the dramatic shutdown of natural testosterone production as is often the case with very androgenic compounds. Of course this effect is dose-dependent. It still has a mild androgenic component, meaning in high doses (30+ mg daily) androgen-mediated side-effects can be noted (acne, male pattern hair loss). Smaller doses taken multiple times per day would deliver better results and maximal use of the steroid. Anabol is highly effective in low doses(25-40 mg ). The half-life of methandrostenolone in the body is only 3-6 hours so taking your daily dose spread over 3 or 4 doses may elicit a better effect than only 1 or 2 doses. Milligram for Milligram its more powerful than a testosterone ester, generally considered the best mass-builder. Bodybuilding is a form of body modification involving intensive muscle hypertrophy; an individual who engages in this activity is referred to as a bodybuilder. In competitive bodybuilding, bodybuilders display their physiques to a panel of judges, who assign points based on their appearance. The muscles are revealed through a process known as the "cutting phase" - a combination of fat loss, oils, and tanning (or tanning lotions) which combined with lighting make the definition of the muscle group more distinct.

Well-known bodybuilders include Charles Atlas, Steve Reeves, Reg Park, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Lou Ferrigno. Currently, four-time winner Jay Cutler holds the title of Mr. Olympia as the world's top bodybuilder.

History

Early years

The "Early Years" of Western Bodybuilding are considered to be the period between 1880 and 1953.

Bodybuilding did not really exist prior to the late 19th century, when it was promoted by Eugen Sandow of Prussia (now northern Germany) , who is now generally referred to as "The Father of Modern Bodybuilding". He is credited as being a pioneer of the sport because he allowed an audience to enjoy viewing his physique in "muscle display performances". Although audiences were thrilled to see a well-developed physique, those men simply displayed their bodies as part of strength demonstrations or wrestling matches. Sandow had a stage show built around these displays through his manager, Florenz Ziegfeld. The Oscar winning 1936 musical film The Great Ziegfeld, depicts this beginning of modern bodybuilding, when Sandow began to display his body for carnivals. The role of Sandow was played by actor Nat Pendleton.

Sandow became so successful at flexing and posing his physique, he later created several businesses around his fame and was among the first to market products branded with his name alone. He was credited with inventing and selling the first exercise equipment for the masses (machined dumbbells, spring pulleys and tension bands) and even his image was sold by the thousands in "cabinet cards" and other prints.
Sandow was a perfect "gracilian" (this was a standard where a mathematical "ideal" was set up and the "perfect physique" was close to the proportions of ancient Greek and Roman statues from classical times - see Golden Mean). This is how Sandow built his own physique and in the early years, men were judged by how closely they matched these "ideal" proportions. Sandow organised the first bodybuilding contest on September 14, 1901 called the "Great Competition" and held in the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK. Judged by himself, Sir Charles Lawes, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the contest was a huge success and was sold out and hundreds of physical culture enthusiasts were turned away. The trophy presented to the winner was a bronze statue of Sandow himself sculpted by Frederick Pomeroy. The winner was William L. Murray of Nottingham, England. The most prestigious bodybuilding contest today is the Mr. Olympia, and since 1977, the winner has been presented with the same bronze statue of Sandow that he himself presented to the winner at the first contest.
First large-scale bodybuilding competition in America
On 16 January 1904, the first large-scale bodybuilding competition in America took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The winner was Al Treloar and he was declared "The Most Perfectly Developed Man in the World". Treloar won a $1,000 cash prize, a substantial sum at that time. Two weeks later, Thomas Edison made a film of Al Treloar's posing routine. Edison also made two films of Sandow a few years before, making him the man who made the first three motion pictures featuring a bodybuilder. 1970s onwards
New organizations
In the 1970s, bodybuilding had major publicity thanks to Arnold Schwarzenegger and others in the 1977 film Pumping Iron. By this time the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB) dominated the sport and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) took a back seat.
The National Physique Committee (NPC) was formed in 1981 by Jim Manion, who had just stepped down as chairman of the AAU Physique Committee. The NPC has gone on to become the most successful bodybuilding organization in the U.S., and is the amateur division of the IFBB in the United States. The late 1980s and early 1990s saw the decline of AAU sponsored bodybuilding contests. In 1999, the AAU voted to discontinue its bodybuilding events.
Rise of anabolic steroids
This period also saw the rise of anabolic steroids used both in bodybuilding and many other sports. In bodybuilding lore, this is partly attributed to the rise of "mass monsters", beginning with Arnold Schwarzenegger but including Franco Columbu, Lou Ferrigno, Dorian Yates, Lee Haney, Ronnie Coleman and Paul DeMayo and also the emergence of athletes such as Rich Gaspari and Andreas Munzer, who defied their genetics to attain size and hardness previously unimagined. To combat this, and in the hopes of becoming a member of the IOC, the IFBB introduced doping tests for both steroids and other banned substances. Although doping tests occurred, the majority of professional bodybuilders still used anabolic steroids for competition. During the 1970s the use of anabolic steroids was openly discussed partly due to the fact they were legal. However the U.S. Congress in the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 1990 placed anabolic steroids into Schedule III of the Controlled substance act (CSA). Similarly in Canada, steroids were added to the Criminal Code of Canada as a Class IV controlled substance (that class was created expressly for steroids).

World Bodybuilding Federation
In 1990, wrestling promoter Vince McMahon announced he was forming a new bodybuilding organization, the World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF). McMahon wanted to bring WWF-style showmanship and bigger prize money to the sport of bodybuilding. A number of IFBB stars were recruited but the roster was never very large, with the same athletes competing; the most notable winner and first WBF champion was Gary Strydom. McMahon formally dissolved the WBF in July 1992. Reasons for this probably included lack of income from the pay-per-view broadcasts of the WBF contests, slow sales of the WBF's magazine Bodybuilding Lifestyles (which later became WBF Magazine), and the expense of paying multiple 6-figure contracts as well as producing two TV shows and a monthly magazine.

Olympic sport discussion
In the early 2000s, the IFBB was attempting to make bodybuilding an Olympic sport. It obtained full IOC membership in 2000 and was attempting to get approved as a demonstration event at the Olympics which would hopefully lead to it being added as a full contest. Recent developments

Areas
Professional bodybuilding
In the modern bodybuilding industry, "professional" generally means a bodybuilder who has won qualifying competitions as an amateur and has earned a "pro card" from the IFBB. Professionals earn the right to compete in sanctioned competitions including the Arnold Classic and the New York Pro (formerly the Night of Champions). Placings at such competitions in turn earn them the right to compete at the Mr. Olympia; the title is considered to be the highest accolade in the professional bodybuilding field. Natural bodybuilding
In natural contests bodybuilders are routinely tested for illegal substances and are banned for any violations from future contests. What qualifies as an "illegal" substance, in the sense that it is prohibited by regulatory bodies, varies between natural federations, and does not necessarily include only substances that are illegal under the laws of the relevant jurisdiction. The first U.S. Women's National Physique Championship, promoted by Henry McGhee and held in Canton, Ohio in 1978, is generally regarded as the first true female bodybuilding contest - that is, the first contest where the entrants were judged solely on muscularity. In 1980 the first Ms. Olympia (initially known as the "Miss" Olympia), the most prestigious contest for professionals, was held. The first winner was Rachel McLish who had also won the NPC's USA Championship earlier in the year. The contest was a major turning point for the sport of women's bodybuilding. McLish inspired many future competitors to start training and competing. In 1985, a movie called Pumping Iron II: The Women was released. This film documented the preparation of several women for the 1983 Caesars Palace World Cup Championship. Competitors prominently featured in the film were Kris Alexander, Lori Bowen, Lydia Cheng, Carla Dunlap, Bev Francis, and Rachel McLish. At the time, Francis was actually a powerlifter, though she soon made a successful transition to bodybuilding, becoming one of the leading competitors of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
In recent years, the related areas of fitness and figure competition have gained in popularity, surpassing that of female bodybuilding, and have provided an alternative for women who choose not to develop the level of muscularity necessary for bodybuilding. Rachel McLish would closely resemble what is thought of today as a fitness and figure competitor instead of what is now considered a female bodybuilder. Fitness competitions also have a gymnastic element to them.

Bodybuilding has grown in popularity amongst some "Trans man" and masculine-identified members of transgender communities. Bodybuilding as a form of body modification is understood by transmasculine individuals to further enhance a desired masculine presentation. Bodybuilding for transmasculine individuals is seen as a way to target and "grow" certain areas of the body (primarily the shoulders, upper back, and arms) while minimizing body parts that are read as feminine (hips and buttocks).
Competition
In competitive bodybuilding, bodybuilders aspire to develop and maintain an aesthetically pleasing body and balanced physique. In prejudging, competitors do a series of mandatory poses - the front lat spread, the rear lat spread, the front double biceps, the back double biceps, the side chest, the side triceps, the most muscular (men only), and the thigh-abdominal pose. Each competitor also performs a routine to display the physique. A posedown is usually held at the end of a posing round, while judges are finishing their scoring. Bodybuilders spend time practicing their posing, since they are judged on it.
In contrast to strongman or powerlifting competitions where physical strength is important, or to Olympic weightlifting, where the main point is equally split between strength and technique, bodybuilding competitions typically emphasize condition, size and symmetry. Different organizations emphasize particular aspects of competition, and sometimes have different categories in which to compete.

Preparations | Cutting and bulking
The general strategy adopted by most present-day competitive bodybuilders is to make muscle gains for most of the year (known as the "off-season") and approximately 12–14 weeks from competition attempt to lose body fat (referred to as "cutting") while minimizing the loss of muscle mass. Generally this involves reducing calorie intake and increasing aerobic exercise while monitoring body fat percentage.
The precise effectiveness of the cutting and bulking strategy is unknown, with only limited observational case studies on the subject. No studies involving precise hypercaloric feeding combined with resistance exercise have been conducted.
Many non-competitive bodybuilders choose not to adopt this strategy, as it often results in significant unwanted fat gain during the "bulking" phase. While competitive bodybuilders focus their efforts to achieve a peak appearance during a brief "competition season", most ordinary people prefer to maintain an attractive physique year-round. Anecdotal evidence suggests that a proper training program combined with a modestly hypercaloric diet with proper macronutrient balance can produce steady gains in size and strength, while avoiding significant increases in body fat.
Pre-competition
In the week leading up to a contest, bodybuilders may decrease their consumption of water, sodium and carbohydrates, the former two to alter how water is retained by the body and the latter to reduce glycogen in the muscle. The day before the show, water is removed from the diet, and diuretics may be introduced, while carbohydrate loading to increase the size of the muscles through replenishment of their glycogen. The goal is to maximize leanness and increase the visibility of veins. The appearance of veins is further enhanced immediately before appearing on stage by darkening the skin through tanning products, applying oils to the skin to increase shine. Some competitors will eat sugar-rich foods to increase the visibility of their veins. A final step is the use of weights to fill the muscles with blood and further increase their size.
Muscle growth
Bodybuilders use three main strategies to maximize muscle hypertrophy:

Strength training through weights or elastic/hydraulic resistance
Specialized nutrition, incorporating extra protein and supplements where necessary
Adequate rest, including sleep and recuperation between workouts

Weight training
Weight training causes micro-tears to the muscles being trained; this is generally known as microtrauma. These micro-tears in the muscle contribute to the soreness felt after exercise, called delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). It is the repair to these micro-trauma that result in muscle growth. Normally, this soreness becomes most apparent a day or two after a workout. However, as muscles become adapted to the exercises, soreness tends to decrease.
Weight training aims to build muscle by prompting two different types of hypertrophy: sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and myofibrillar hypertrophy. Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy leads to larger muscles so is favored by bodybuilders more than myofibrillar hypertrophy which builds athletic strength. Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy is triggered by increasing repetitions, whereas myofibrillar hypertrophy is triggered by lifting heavier weights. In either case, there is an increase in size and strength of the muscles (compared to if that same individual does not lift weights at all). However, the emphasis is different.
Many trainees like to cycle between the two methods in order to prevent the body from adapting (maintaining a progressive overload), possibly emphasizing whichever method more suits their goals. The high levels of muscle growth and repair achieved by bodybuilders require a specialized diet. Generally speaking, bodybuilders require more calories than the average person of the same weight to provide the protein and energy requirements needed to support their training and increase muscle mass. A sub-maintenance level of food energy is combined with cardiovascular exercise to lose body fat in preparation for a contest. The ratios of food energy from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats vary depending on the goals of the bodybuilder.
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates play an important role for bodybuilders. Carbohydrates give the body energy to deal with the rigors of training and recovery. Carbohydrates also promote secretion of insulin, a hormone enabling cells to get the glucose they need. Insulin also carries amino acids into cells and promote protein synthesis. Insulin has steroid-like effects in terms of muscle gains. It is impossible to promote protein synthesis without the existence of insulin, and which means without carbohydrates, it is impossible to add muscle mass. Bodybuilders seek out low-glycemic polysaccharides and other slowly-digesting carbohydrates, which release energy in a more stable fashion than high-glycemic sugars and starches. This is important as high-glycemic carbohydrates cause a sharp insulin response, which places the body in a state where it is likely to store additional food energy as fat. However, bodybuilders frequently do ingest some quickly-digesting sugars (often in form of pure dextrose or maltodextrin) after a workout. This may help to replenish glycogen stores within the muscle, and to stimulate muscle protein synthesis.

Training at a high intensity too frequently also stimulates the central nervous system (CNS) and can result in a hyper-adrenergic state that interferes with sleep patterns. Muscle Building with Circuit Training

Whenever I have watched other body builders or weight trainers in the gyms I noticed one thing throughout. The guys who trained slowly and had long rests were predominantly heavier and had poor definition compared to those who trained faster. Those who trained faster tended to use less weight and maybe used higher reps and their bodies were thin and wiry.

So which one do you want to look like?

Well none of the above. You want to be lean and bigger don’t you otherwise why are you lifting weights. So there is another type of trainer who you rarely see in gyms but when you do you will never forget them because they seem to have the perfect combination: size and definition. These types train very heavy but also very quickly, almost like circuit training but not quite. The difference with circuit training is that the muscle growth and strength is not as important as the endurance and fitness of the person who is training with which is the true goal.

So somewhere in the middle is the ideal ?

Training with speed but also training with heavy weights and very intense. When I say speed I do not mean doing your repetitions super fast what I mean is VERY SHORT RESTS between sets. So if you normally spend a minute or two after each set looking around the gym, daydreaming or chatting to somebody you know, that is the muscle killer.

You must only pause for no more than forty seconds between sets otherwise your recovery is too great and your muscles are recuperated. If you can rest for thirty seconds only and then lift again you will find your muscles literally balloon. This by the way does not mean you only train lightly with these sets. Every set must be high intensity and with the maximum weight you can lift with as many reps as you can do performed in correct form. This is what I have found is the most effective way to build muscle and strength. So to put it bluntly in order to grow bigger muscles you must be:

1. Lifting the heaviest weight that you can handle.

2. Doing the most reps you can (between 6- 12).

3. Doing it in the shortest time (maximum rest between sets 40 seconds).

OK I know what you’re thinking, how can you lift as much as you can, do as many reps as you can and only rest between 30-40 seconds per set it’s impossible. It isn’t, it takes a little time to get used to but you can do it. One whole workout should be less than forty minutes in total.

There must be no chitchat or looking around the room you must be focused throughout. By the way when the workout is over you should be totally exhausted. If not you have held back. Do not worry you if you don’t feel that way after your first workout as you can learn from it and up the weights next time. This work out not only will make you stronger and bigger but due to the speed of it you will become more aerobically fit too, which helps you avoid becoming fat.

Steroid Cycles for Beginners

I´m going to limit my suggestions for beginner´s cycles to basically two compounds at most. And I´m going to also limit my suggestions to the most cost effective cycles and I´m not going to include any bizarre or hard to find drugs. Chances are if you´re a beginner, you can´t get all the exotic drugs people talk about. And, as a beginner, you´re better off without them. Here´s the cycle we´re going to discuss:

So you´ll notice a few things here, and I´ll explain them one by one. The first thing that I suggest is a twelve week cycle. This is because as a beginner, I feel like you want to have some time to deal with your cycle and make gains from it. You´re going to gain a lot of weight at first, and you need to get used to it. Gains will begin to taper off towards the end of this cycle. Most people find minor side effects to begin immediately upon starting a cycle (acne, etc... ) and subside within the first month also. This is as a result of your body trying to normalize itself´ or maintain/restore homeostasis in geek-speak.

The first compound we´re looking at for this cycle is testosterone. Testosterone is a great compound for use as the base of every cycle, and especially a beginner´s cycle This is because it is the primary male sexual hormone and it will have a variety of beneficial effects in your body including the synthesis of new protein and increase in IGF (both of which will build muscle), increasing red blood cell count (thus increasing endurance), and will provide an increase in both strength and aggressiveness in the gym. Additionally, it will convert to a much stronger androgen called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and also the female sex hormone Estrogen. This will give you the full spectrum of effects provided by your own natural testosterone. At this dose, not too many side effects should manifest. If your nipples get sore, then 10mgs/day of Nolvadex (GP Nolva) would be a welcome addition to this cycle. If hair loss is a concern, Nizoral shampoo (Ketoconazole) or Propecia (Finasteride) can be added into the cycle as per the manufacturer´s instructions.

You´ll need to inject either GP Test Enanth 250 or GP Test Cyp 250 at a dose of 400mgs once a week, and have the suggested medications to treat side effects on hand, just in case you need them.

The second, and optional, compound in this cycle is GP Methan 10 (Methandrostenolone). This is an oral version of testosterone that has been tweaked by scientists to have less conversion to estrogen. In this case, they added what´s known as a c1-2 double bond, and this slows conversion to estrogen, and appears to do the same with conversion to DHT. They also made an adjustment called c17 alpha alkylation, making it orally active (unlike the testosterone you are using in this cycle). Adding this steroid into a beginner´s cycle will allow the user to achieve more gains in strength and muscle mass more quickly. It´s known to experienced anabolic steroids users as kick starting a cycle. Remember, the testosterone is the bread and butter of this cycle, and the GP Methan 10 is a nice addition, but not to be used alone.

A cycle like this should provide a beginning steroid user with a good twenty (or more) pounds or more if a proper diet and training regimen is followed. Some of this weight is going to be water retention, since the two steroids being used can both convert to estrogen. If a clean, high calorie diet is followed, then that bloated watery look that´s common with first time steroid users can be avoided. Also, it´s important to note that it´s a very good idea to do at least 20 minutes of cardio work three or four times a week while on a cycle, to keep your cardiovascular system running optimally, and able to support all of the new weight (and stress) you are placing on it.

A guy goes into the gym feeling lethargic and starts to lift his usual amount of weight not too heavy not too light when a gorgeous looking woman walks by and smiles at him. Suddenly he feels energized and spurred on by the smile he begins to add more weight to the bar to impress the lady. His energy doubles and he is able to lift the weights quite easily and his body seems to balloon. Even though the smile was probably just politeness it was enough to motivate the guy to try harder. With the right motivation he was able to supercharge his workout. The smile was like a switch being flicked in his head and he was able to find energy where he had none before. This little story demonstrates the power of motivation to change your workouts but rather than waiting for a sexy smile you must motivate yourself before your workout starts. You can do it with the right mental attitude.

How come is it that two people of a similar build lift different amounts of weights?
How come is it that some people with smaller muscles can lift more weight than those with bigger ones?

The answer is THE MIND.

The belief system and mindset of a person determines the productivity of the workout. The person who is smaller believes they can lift the weight so they can (within reason). We tend to aspire to our beliefs so what we believe we can do we tend to achieve just that. This goes for anything in life whether that be in your career, a job promotion or even what you believe about your health we get what we think. Take my example: Up until about a year ago I had been going to the gym and I began slowly but surely I had lessened the amount of weight I was lifting. It seemed like I was becoming weaker. The strange thing was I still seemed to be using the same amount of effort with the lower weights that I was using when I was lifting the heavier ones. I was using approximately half the amount I was using six months earlier and it felt the same weight! As a result my muscles were shrinking and so was my confidence in my appearance.

One day I was driving to the gym feeling pretty negative about going when I started to think about what I was lifting and looking like six months before and I remembered how intense I used to train. I remembered the mindset that I had when I went into the gym. I remembered that I had a steely expression on my face like a man on a mission. I remembered looking very intense and sure of my self as I cranked the machines to the full stack and blasted the weights up with power and intensity. I remembered what I looked like and the effort I used when I trained. At that point it hit home for me I was strong but I had let it slip without realizing it. So when I arrived at the gym I was mad, I was determined to show myself that I hadn’t lost it so I got inside and headed to the weights. Looking focused and intense I cranked the pin to the full stack and lifted the shoulder press. The amazing thing was it didn’t feel any heavier than it did the time before yet it was double the weight. Because my mind was properly focused and I wasn’t telling myself I was weak and all that stuff I was telling myself before I lifted it with ease and I cranked out 10 reps in proper form. The rest of the workout continued in the same vain, very heavy weights full of gusto puffing and panting throughout like a man possessed! At the end of the workout my body felt like it had been given an electric shock and my body felt huge, I could barely move my arms. I swear I put an inch on my arms that day. The realization that hit me that day was that before I had convinced myself that the weights were heavy and that maybe I was naturally losing strength due to age and other factors in my life. What a pile of bullshit!

The reason that I was losing strength was due to my mental attitude and nothing else. Even now I see people in the gym faking it. Fake grimaces on their faces as they lift tiny weights pretending to themselves that they are trying their hardest. I see people capable of lifting more than they are using, using child size weights. These people are shirking on their training and not only on the weights too. Cardio machines such as exercise bikes are common skiving grounds. I see people chatting nicely side-by-side to each other as they go through the motions on the lowest setting. If you want to chat go a pub if you want to train go to the gym, you don’t do press ups in a pub why should you chat in a gym? No doubt they go home to their partners and complain that “the gym is no good” as their bodies start to look like a sack of potatoes. It is a sad fact that in today’s modern gyms people seem to be more bothered by what other people think of themselves than how hard they train so they train quietly and avoid getting too sweaty. Who cares what other people think! You are in their for a reason to improve your body, not fit in with a crowd who are going nowhere! If they don’t like the way you train then they should find another gym or indeed another past time.

You do not complain at their apathy do you, yet you should. Poor training breeds a lazy atmosphere. Next time you see a person going through the motions on a piece of equipment complain to a member of staff and have them thrown out! I always say there are two types of people who go to the gym those who go to train and those who go to look at the decor. I was in the changing room the other day when I heard two guys complaining that the gym was looking tatty. It was news to me as I had never noticed at all. All I was concerned about was the weights, which were fine. Big and heavy. I don’t like a gym to look and feel like a dentists I like a gym to be a gym. The guys talking about the state of the decor had poor physiques probably because they trained like fairies looking at the walls and trying to get the eye of a pretty young girl instead of lifting the big weights. If you want to chat up the opposite sex wait until the workout is over and sit in the gym bar after wards with your shirt stretched. Drinking a protein shake of course! With a better body you will have more chance of success with the opposite sex. Go into the gym DETERMINED.
